A functional electrical stimulation (FES) biomedical device used to improve the walking ability for individuals with foot drop.

What are orthotics?

An orthosis, (also known as a brace or orthotic) is a device applied to the outside of the body used to:
  • Restore function and mobility
  • Protect or support an injury
  • Prevent or correct deformity
  • Provide support
  • Improve biomechanical alignment
There are many different types of orthotic devices. These range from foot orthotics, to spinal braces, to pediatric helmets. A few examples of common orthotic devices can be seen below.
